Lodge to hold Elangomat training at Spring Pow-Wow

By Will Allen, Vice-Chief of Administration
Every new Arrowman deserves a trained clan leader! That's why Lodge 104 is proud to offer a new Elangomat Training program at this year's Spring Pow-Wow, March 19-20th. There is no better way to serve your fellow brothers than by acting as a mentor and example during their Ordeal; and there is no better way to prepare for such a leadership role than by going through the Lodge Elangomat Training. PLUS as an elangomat participating in the training, you will receive a $5 discount off the weekend fee for Pow-Wow. Register online at elangomat.eventsbot.com; enter the password “elangomat” to receive access to the event.
The Elangomat Training will prepare both youth and adult participants to serve as clan leaders for the 2010 Spring Inductions. You will have the chance to develop leadership skills and practical knowledge of the Ordeal; topics covered include the ceremonial importance of the elangomat (a Delaware word for “friend”), means of communicating with your clan, your role in the Ordeal trials, and a preview of the clan service projects around camp.
During the training, we also want you to have fun! There will be a movie showing and plenty of chances to get to know your teammates on the 2010 Spring Inductions team. Serving as an elangomat is not an easy or trivial duty; but it can be very rewarding, and we think you will find it more than worthwhile—for yourself, your clan members, and the rest of the Lodge.
The program will begin Friday night, Mar. 19th, and run until noon on Saturday, Mar. 20th –giving you plenty of time to enjoy your other favorite activities at Pow-wow. Participants will be expected to attend Spring Inductions weekend, May 14-16, barring unforeseen circumstances. Register for the Lodge 104 Elangomat Training Program today—and we'll see you at Pow-Wow!

NOAC over, but the memories remain

NOAC 2009
Introducing the 2009 Occoneechee Lodge 104 NOAC Contingent!

From July 30th to August 6th, 49 of our brothers experienced an event that will not soon be forgotten. At around 4am those of us from the Fayetteville and surrounding areas boarded a Holiday charter bus in Sanford to head toward Durham to pick up the rest of our contingent. Once everyone was loaded we headed toward Indiana for NOAC! Thursday was used as a get to know everyone day for the contingent, where we learned our fellow brothers most embarrassing moments! Thursday night we arrived in Indiana; Friday marked the start of some touring that took place throughout Indianapolis and parts of the state. The contingent visited the NCAA Hall of Champions, saw the outside of the Colt’s new Lucas Oil Stadium, ate at White Castle (bad decision for everyone that went except Kevin Pusak) and visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! At the speedway we all kissed the bricks and walked Jimmie Johnson’s winning burnout marks, just like we had won the race! After one last night on the road we made our way to Indiana University at Bloomington (one of the biggest campuses many of us had ever seen!)

Occoneechee Lodge wins big at 2009 Conclave!

CAMP TUSCARORA - A good time was had by all April 17-19 at the 2009 SR-7B Conclave. As a lodge we received numerous first and second place finishes in individual dance and Pre-ordeal ceremony competitions. A special congratulations to our Brotherhood team, Drum/singing team, cooking competition team, and our iron man team for receiving first place in their respective competitions. Also, congratulations to Nick Oschner and Kevin Biegert for winning their section officer elections.
The positive spirit we showed all weekend was unmatched, especially during the quest events (the cheers for the pancake team were hilarious).
The big news is that Occoneechee Lodge won the most prestigious award this weekend... HONOR LODGE for section 7B. It has been over ten years since we last won this award and it is a tribute to everything that the entire Lodge has achieved throughout the year. This award signifies that our fellow lodges in SR-7B consider us to be the best lodge in the section for 2009 and is a testament to the dedication of our members.
